I Love Who? Female Emcees

On the I love the chicken head show, we have four cats left. Real, Tango, Chance and White Boy. NY takes them two by two on grand dates and chooses one at the end of the night. On the first date we have Real and Tango. Their date was golf and the club followed by dinner. (Is it me or do they always seem to have finger food at dinner?) I was very shocked to see the ordinarily mature big brother acting like a complete ass on the date. Granted it is a competition, his strategy was to just clown the other guy till he gave up or lost his temper. Tango then whispers to NY that he loves her. But, alas she spends the evening with Real. Not the whole evening, but with all the foreplay with whipped cream and fruit, it midas well had been. On date two there is Chance and white boy on a hot air balloon ride followed by dinner. Chance gets drunk and acts a fool as always getting loud with NY at one point and telling her to shut up. She takes White Boy up for the night. She then probes him more about his past relationship. Turns out that he’s only been out of that relationship for 2 months? NY thinks that this is too soon for him, explains that she’s not a rebound girl; and tells him that she’ll see him later. At elimination there is a twist. She says that there is a man here that she loves but knows can’t give her the love that she needs and that he should just step down. All the guys are wondering who it is. Chance starts to step down, but NY stops him. She finally calls White Boy down, and you can tell he’s shocked and hurt. Dayumm, I likeded him. Next week who knows?

This am on MTV there was a story about where have all the female em cees gone? That’s a good question. It’s been at least 10 years since a decent female rap record has come out.
I don’t really count Eve (she’s part of Ruff Riders set), Lil Kim (she sho doesn’t speak for me) Foxy Brown ( in the same camp with Kim) as contenders for anybody’s microphone. With the obvious exception of Miss Elliott and Lauren Hill, there has been an extreme lacking in anything female on the set, that isn’t half naked and gyrating. These Jane come latelys Remy Ma, and Jean Grae still have to catch a wave to get anything that is worth listening to. Not just that but the promotion of these women is non existent. Salt got saved and broke up the dynamic trio. Latifah has a film career, and McLyte is on TV. Roxanne Shante has been absent for more than 10 years and a comeback is highly unlikely. It would be cool to have Lauren Hill back on the set in all her glory, but I don’t see it happening any time soon. Latifah made a comment that this rapper and that rapper should have been on eachother’s songs, but weren’t. Is that the female cattiness that everyone talks about? Or are they scared to collaborate because they fear the ‘other girl’ will outshine them? Maybe there should be a push to have an all female tour? Who would be on it? And who I would want on it would be two different things. It’s sad to say, but I think the day of the female emcee has passed.
